Decorative Driveway Construction
Chipsealdriveway.com is an Eastern Massachusetts business with a storage yard located south and west of Boston. We have provided high quality and durable driveway chip seal installation from Connecticut to Maine over the last 25 years. We continue to do so and each job has the secret sauce added. To be specific our Secret sauce for a durable long lasting installation is knowing just what are the critical factors for success. Just like any rodeo after you have done a lot of them the next one is not that hard.
We have the experience, the right equipment, knowing the critical factors involved in what it takes to produce a long lasting chip seal project. Conceptually it is not rocket science to glue stone to a driveway. In fact, you do have to sweat the details. The difference here is the hot asphalt is not mixed at an asphalt plant instead it is put in place at the work site and the stone is placed on top not mixed in. So the specific job site conditions are critical.
Our Process
As a potential customer, we would like to outline what it is we do and how we go about it. There is a pattern to how we go about our business. Over the years we have met with and explained the technology of chip sealing to people who specify the process. When there is interest in a specific process we are happy to meet with the people involved with the decision and explain the details. Here is the typical flow;
- Meet with specifiers
- Meet with the customer – end user
- Site visit if different – to see the particulars of the situation and make sure the chip seal is an appropriate solution
- Free Quote
- Schedule the work when accepted
- Fine tune exact date based on the weather, we must have a warm dry surface (no frost)
- Site work – prep and install
- We need unfettered access to the surface
- Most projects are not a full day
- Vehicle access is usually not restricted on completion of the project
- The customer gets to enjoy the “Look”
We sweat the details to make sure the project comes out well. Being in New England with our changeable weather one of the biggest issues in keeping an exact schedule. We will not work when the conditions are against the successful completion of the project.
Quality Installations
Project preparation same as any other endeavor involves a number of steps and many you may or may not see. Naturally, the site evaluation is done to make sure there is a solid foundation for the pavement. Sourcing the stone is critical. The small chip stone must be clean stone. It needs to be washed stone free of all sand, silt, and clay clinging to the surface. Without this precaution, the hot asphalt emulsion will not be able to bond directly to the stone.
Chipsealing also requires the art and science of applying just the right amount of liquid asphalt to either an existing or new asphalt pavement. Believe it or not, we also need to know the specific electrical charge on the stone. All stone has a slight charge to it that is either positively or negatively charged. The result of not taking this into account is a project that will not last.
Next, we do the spreading of a native or colored aggregate (chip stone) to the liquid asphalt. For custom colors other After additional steps are taken, the end result is an in-place stone surface. Custom built trucks and spreading equipment allows us to efficiently place the stone surface.
The end result
The chip seal process will add years to your properties pavements life. A well-constructed chip seal driveway adds value to your property.
